Video Games: A Passion

Gaming has always been something that has defined me. When people ask me what my hobbies are, I never hesitate to tell them that I play video games. People who have heard of me seem to recognize me as a gamer, without even talking to me. I’ve made friends from across the globe just by playing video games with them. A whole facet of my existence is based off of video games.

When I was a kid and had gotten my hands on a computer, my friend gave me a floppy disk. Floppy disks were pretty useful back then. It contained a bunch of emulated Sega games like Golden Axe and Final Fight as well as a few DOS games like Dangerous Dave. That was the spark that had erupted into a flame and got me started on the path of gaming. A while after that, I picked up my first console and dove feet-first into large green pipes (Super Mario Bros.) and murdered thousands of birds (Duck Hunt). Nothing would ever be the same. Fast forward to now and my Steam library is chocked full of so many games, it would take me 1900 continuous hours to finish them all. That’s as much time as it takes to watch the first season of Breaking Bad 304 times.

That’s 262 times more than required to drive someone to insanity. Or just a meth addiction.

These days, I tend to play a large variety of video games on PC ranging from first person shooters and side-scrolling beat ’em ups to RPGs and indie games like Dust: An Elysian Tail which is the third game in the featured image of the post. When I’m not stuck playing DOTA 2 that is. That game has the potential to suck the life out of you if you’re not careful. But then again, many games tend to be like that. I’ve played enough games to be well past the stage where you get addicted to a single game and then never see sunlight again until the power chord gets ripped apart by a stray cat. That doesn’t happen in real life.

Anyways, this was just a short blog post about video games and what they mean to me. I shall soon post some more articles about gaming and some reviews of specific games, mostly indie titles like FEZ and Bastion, but I’ll be covering some of the mainstream titles as long as I can actually play them on my system. Anything and everything that catches my attention may just end up on this blog.

You have been warned.

Hello Blogger, thats a nice stock photo of a football enthusiast. How do I know? Gamers don’t look this “smooth”and “fresh”. Great post and maybe you could do a little post on your most cherished gaming moments and bring all those treasured screenshots out. Till then I’ll make sure something very ridiculous gets your attention.

Hey, thanks! I intend to make a more detailed post on a later date, this was just a small intro into the gaming side of me and my blog. I’m not sure what you mean by that last bit, but okay. Looking forward to your ridiculousness.
